Luigi's Mansion was previewed heavily at the latest Nintendo Direct from Nintendo that happened last Valentines day. Satoru Iwata, with Luigi's hat in his head, boldly claimed 2013 as the "Year of Luigi" with Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon as its flagship title.

Forever a SideKick?

Iwata began the Nintendo Direct with a trip down memory lane about the history of Luigi's character. First appearing in 1983 in the Mario Bros. arcade game, Mario's taller brother appeared in numerous games as a supporting character. The presentation even took note of numerous video game boxarts where Luigi was depicted though never the main attraction.
Of course everything changed with Luigi's Mansion. This game, released on the GameCube in 2001 is not only a demo of the technological advancement of the particular console. It was also the first time Luigi appeared as the main character. After that game, though, he returned to his supporting role until now with the upcoming release of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Shigeru Miyamoto appeared for the first time in a Nintendo Direct talking about the development and new features of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. He highlighted several features of the game that will make it a unique experience for the Nintendo 3DS.

The first one is of course, 3D. Though he did not go to great lengths explaining this one, Miyamoto-san noted his desire to see Luigi's Mansion in 3D even during the days of the GameCube. Now that it is possible, the richer experience will now be realized, "As if Luigi is in there."

The Poltergust 500 returns as the vacuum cleaner that can suck up ghost. The Poltergust has other features, including the ability to suck in and/or move other things which is necessary in solving puzzles in the game.

The Darklight device is another device which allows you to see things that cannot be seen. Consider it a Flashlight that can see ghosts and items that cannot be seen by the naked eye.

In addition to numerous ghosts, the game will also have a lot of mansions to explore. The boss ghosts will also be distinct that you'll have to think before fighting them. In fighting the ghosts, you should stun them first before attacking. This, according to Miyamoto-san, gives a fresh new feeling in fighting the ghosts.

There's also this "ghost dog" which has an affiniaty with gold. Give them an opportunity and they will run away with your gold. You can capture it, however, with the use of your darklight device. The ghost dog will leave footprints which can only be seen when you illuminate it with the darklight device. Use it to find the ghost dog and your gold.

Remember that the ghosts in Luigi's Mansion will not lose easily.
