Well, the company said that the digital game will be released along side full retail sales and New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be the the first one to received this treatment.
According to Satoru Iwata, global president of Nintendo, there are many benefits to digital downloads over boxed sales though he mentioned the disadvantages too. Benefits include:
1. Convenient purchasing
2. Multiple Nintendo 3DS titles in one SD card. You don't have to bring your entire library of Nintendo 3DS games!
On the downside of course is the space of your SD card and of course, you can't share games with multiple systems.
How will Nintendo do it?
Partnership with Retailers
It will be different from Sony and Microsoft because Nintendo will partner with the traditional retailers to deliver the digital game. You can go to your retailer of choice and when you buy from them, they will give you a code which you will put to the eShop so that you can download from there. According to Iwata, this can let them have more exposure because even those who don't have credit cards can buy the game. What do you think of this new system which Nintendo will implement? Do you think it will hurt them in anyway or this will be the differentiation that the company should have done in the past already? Let me know in the comments below.
