The demo (the third, by the way) will enable the players to try out the battle system and also the job changing system. Keep in mind that Square Enix is getting feedback from the demo so that they will know what needs to be improved before the final product comes out. In retrospect, they change the speed of the characters while walking in the overworld because the feedback from one of the demo felt the character was too slow.
The new character, Lee, is a soldier on a mission to apprehend the characters Agnes and Tiz. While she has a strong sense of justice, Lee will end up allying with the other characters. Here's a picture:
