Keiji Inafune Says Japanese Video Games These Days Lack Creative Vision

Keiji Inafune, the man behind the Mega Man series is on a roll - in criticizing Japanese video games. Now Inafune-san talked with Gamasutra and discussed how his two companies are different from the bulk of Japanese video game companies of today. He quipped:
“We have this creative concept, and that's what we're going to build our IP around. We're not going to focus it necessarily on the money. We're not going to focus it necessarily on what exactly the people want. This is going to be our vision and what we're going to stick to it.”
Ever since Inafune-san quit Capcom, perhaps, even before then, he has been feeding up the media with all these negativity about Japanese video games as a whole. While it is always okay to criticize, what bothers me is that the Mega Man creator is using this criticizing thing to differentiate himself from the majority of Japanese developers today. What difference does it make? Let's just check out Kaio: King of Pirates when it comes up.

And perhaps, Keiji Inafune should try to make all this dissing in a way that can encourage the Japanese to follow what he wants to believe. I believe Inafune is trying to change the Japanese video game company, and he is right. The only way for Japan to catch up to the world is develop a new vision. But perhaps instead of constant criticizing, Mr.Inafune should try the other way around - words of encouragment.
