The numerous iterations of Popcap's Plants vs Zombies in different gaming platforms might make the Nintendo DS version fall flat, especially in the graphics department. However, what one may consider as the worst version may turned out to be one of the best DS games that ever grace the handheld.
Of course you know Plants Vs Zombies. It is a modified tower-defense game in which you protect your house from an impending zombie invasion by what else but by growing plants. You have vast number of plants in your arsenal for you to choose from- and that’s where strategy comes into place. There are a lot of zombie kinds and it is up to you to decide what plants you should grow in order to protect your house.
The gameplay for the DS version is kept intact. You grow plants that shoot on zombies or defend against them. Popcap did not dare consider to cut animation, or even the number of plants and zombies for it to fit perfectly in the Nintendo DS. All the additions that were added to the Game of The Year Edition of Plants Vs Zombies remains. The minigames have remained. Virtually everything that you actually know about Plants vs Zombies is still there.
And Popcap manage to do that by sacrificing the graphics in favor of content. If you have played Plants vs Zombies in the PC or the IPhone, you will probably notice the graphics downgrade immediately. Those who are new to the game may see that quickly too. However, I think Plants vs Zombies DS might be enjoyed more by those that have played it before.
The DS version completely makes the game stylus-driven making everything smooth and keeping your fingers from blocking the screen (in comparison with the Iphone and the Ipod Touch). But more importantly, you will play it because of its sheer addicting gameplay. You will be rewarded with mini puzzles that makes use of other DS capabilities such as the microphone.
