The Nintendo 3DS Rules September With Monster Hunter 4 in Japan, Next Month With Pokemon Worldwide
Japan has always been a place where the charts are always shaky. This week you're on top, the next week you aren't. That's the case for normal games. But there are certain games which stands out for weeks and weeks even after release date. Animal Crossing is one. Super Mario 3D Land is another.
And looks like Monster Hunter 4 is set to rule Japan this month of September.
The numbers are in. 1,715,060 number of units sold, more than all of the sales of all the PS Vita games ever released. The Nintendo 3DS also experienced a big spike in sales, moving around 236,000 units. I'm sure most of it will be used for playing Monster Hunter 4.
Set to be the biggest Monster Hunter game ever. Tons of new content were added, including items, weapons, and monster. Some parts of the gameplay have also been improved. Long lines of people have waited on launch day to buy the game. Now, expect Monster Hunter 4 to rule the charts for the coming weeks.
That is, until Pokemon takes over.
On October 12, along with the launch of the Nintendo 2DS, Pokemon X and Y will be released globally. This will allow all Pokemon fans across all regions to play the game on the same day, at the same time. It has never happened before, that's why the date is a monumental one in Pokemon history. Expect sales of the game at the top of the Japanese charts, as well as in the other countries.
Had GameFreak decided to released Pokemon Black and White 2 on the 3DS instead of the Nintendo DS, the excitement for a new generation of Pokemon games will not be the same as what it is now. The simultaneous release of the Nintendo 2DS in North America and Europe will boost the game's sales in western regions further. In Japan, however, the 2DS is not needed for Pokemon to even move 3DS systems.
With the Xbox One and PS4 still beyond the horizon from coming to Japan, Nintendo remains the sole king in the Japanese market.
