Japanese music group SMAP is recruiting new members and will be on hiatus so that they can play Dragon Quest X. This is the gist of their latest commercial for Dragon Quest X which you can see below:
In the commercial, SMAP held a press conference about their decision to go on hiatus to focus on being just normal Japanese citizens, playing Dragon Quest X. Such is the reason for new members to take over. The second half of the commercial features screens from the upcoming Nintendo and Square Enix game.
SMAP is arguably the biggest music act in Japan since the1990s. They are so big that the producers of the commercial put a disclaimer at the lower right of the advertisement to say that it is not true. I can imagine the fans going crazy for such a big news of the biggest group in Japan going on a hiatus to play a Wii game. That will be bad marketing in Nintendo and Square Enix's part for the Wii and the upcoming Wii U.
Heads up 3DS owners, just so you know,
there is a 3DS app for Dragon Quest X too!
