If Not For Hiroshi Yamauchi....

NES Famicom

If not for Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo could have still been a playing cards company, a taxi company, and creator of love hotels.

If it wasn't for him, there wouldn't be a revival of video games following the video crash of the 80s.

... there wouldn't be so much interest in Japanese games, which led to the worldwide phenomenon that is Mario, Pokemon, and of course Japanese RPGs, which are spearheaded by the Zelda games and games from companies like Square, Enix, and Capcom.

.... we wouldn't have the Nintendo DS, which was originally his idea, as well as the other consoles before that.

..., we wouldn't even have these conversations about PS4 vs the Xbox One if the NES was not introduced, reviving the gaming industry when it was about to falter.

Hiroshi Yamauchi, from all the readings I have done, was a shrewd businessman, perhaps more cockier and better than Satoru Iwata, who seems very friendly in the eyes of the media. But of course, the world is very different now and CEOs need to be casual. Still, you can't deny how much impact Yamauchi has made in the gaming industry.

Rest in Peace.

Do you have any favorite Hiroshi Yamauchi quotes?
