Pikachu Graces The Nintendo 3DS LL - Is This A Pokemon 3DS Hint?

It has only been days when Nintendo released the 3DS LL in Japan and now they have announced its first special variant, and what could be more perfect than the Pokemon Pikachu to grace it? And more importantly, is this a sign that Pokemon will finally get its proper debut in Nintendo's new handheld? Our 3DS blog has more pictures and analysis:

This exclusive Nintendo 3DS LL is colored in deep yellow (Pikachu's color) and the pokemon's illustration graces the outer covering of the handheld. It is spreading its cute little arms as if it is going to hug you when you look at it directly in its eyes while the tail seems to extend at the upper cover of the Nintendo 3DS LL (3DS XL outside Japan.) And oh, the eyes are gleaming just when I thought it is those cheeks that will have a form of reflector in them. Talk about classy!

But The Rounded Face is Uhm...

Anyway, what only strikes me as awkward is Pikachu's rounded face in the lower portion of this Nintendo 3DS variant. I get it. Perhaps the form will look unbalanced if they shaped the pokemon's face the way it should be (see below,) but perhaps Nintendo take into consideration that Pikachu's illustration has evolved from the rounded mouse we saw in Pokemon Red to how it looks today in the Pokemon anime:

A Bit Pricey

But no matter how I marvel at it, it seems that it will be Japan-exclusive, WHICH we, who are not in Japan can buy online. I would if only I can actually understand Japanese. lol. You can pre-order it starting on August  25 while the physical release happens on September 15 for 18,900 Yen or around $238. 

Uhm, that's a bit pricey but of course nowhere near the Nintendo 3DS's launch price. 

Why Release a Pikachu 3DS LL when There's No Main Pokemon Game in the 3DS To Begin With?

And talking about launch releases, isn't this Pikachu 3DS LL the perfect handheld for us to play Pokemon Black and White 2? Or perhaps finish Pokemon Conquest? And oh, isn't it that Nintendo normally releases a variant of their handheld as a tie-in promotion for either an upcoming or hot game at the moment? 

Upcoming? I doubt anyone is thinking that Pokemon will properly come to Nintendo 3DS this year. Hot? Well, Pokemon Black and White 2 is still blazing hot in Japan right now, and will continue doing so in the coming weeks and months. And wait, the release date of this variant - September 25 is actually just weeks before Pokemon Black and White 2's worldwide release....

My wild guess is that Nintendo and the Pokemon company are trolling the non-people of Japan are planning to announce something else...a new side game? A Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remake? What do you guys think? Let the rumor mill begin!
