Golden Week is not just this year's biggest in Japan's video game industry so far, but the biggest for Nintendo as well. The numbers speak for itself. The company that Mario built dominated Japan's video game sales charts by occupying 15 in the top 20. 8 of it is in the top 10. Is that what we call domination? IGN called it an obliteration of competition.
[WII] 01. Mario Party 9 - 144,585 (297,468)
[PS3] 02. Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City: 52,428 (304,953)
[3DS] 03. Fire Emblem Awakening: 42,347 (345,260)

[3DS] 08. Mario & Sonic at London Olympic: 13,810 (157,337)
[PSP] 09. Conception Please Give Birth to My Children: 10,193 (40,039)
[WII] 10. Wii Sports Resort Wiimote Plus Pack: 10,058 (935,555)
[PSP] 11. Pro Baseball Spirits 2012: 9,843 (128,409)

[3DS] 14. Dynasty Warriors VS : 8,614 (24,192)
[3DS] 15. Wii Party : 8,503 (2,345,476)
[PS3] 16. Pro Baseball Spirits 2012: 6,853 (152,934)
[WII] 17. Mario Kart Wii : 6,783 (3,561,199)
[PSP] 18. 2nd Super Robot Wars Z Saisei Volume : 6,546 (328,432)
[3DS] 19. Harvest Moon Hajimari no Daichi : 6,408 (179,148)
[WII] 20. Go Vacation : 6,002 (271,087)
The numbers above explains everything. Mario Party rules at the top spot. Fire Emblem: Awakening and the big 3 continues with steady sales. Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition reaches 300,000+ in sales. And oh boy is that Mario Kart Wii at no. 17?
In the hardware department, well, again, I'll let the numbers speak for me:
3DS: 91,868 (74,282)
PS3: 23,478 (21,114)
PSP: 20,033 (22,457)
Wii: 15,789 (9,200)
PSV: 10,583 (12,299)
PS2: 1,611 (1,395)
X360: 1,420 (1,327)
DSi LL: 1,097 (895)
Long story short, the Nintendo 3DS sells like hotcakes (or should I say onigiri, if in Japan) while Wii sales is bigger than that of the PS Vita. Japan continues to be Nintendo country.
By next week, the numbers may probably decline but still dance the same tune. Now, whoever said Nintendo is doomed?
