As previously noted at the latest Nintendo Direct Conference, Game Gear Games will be part of the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console soon.
The Game Gear had its run in the 90s as a competitor to the cheaper Nintendo Game Boy. At that time, Nintendo and Sega are key competitors in the handheld market, with the former dominating it. And even though the Game Gear has the better hardware, the Game Boy devours it completely. Still, fans can still remember it as having some of the best games Sega has to offer in the handhelds at that time. Sonic of course, is there.
The Game Gear games that will be in the 3DS virtual console will be priced at 300 Yen.
